EARTHCHAT: Insects and bees - their decline and the implications

Updated: Aug 20, 2022

Marie's guest this week is Ian Dempsey. They will be discussing the loss of insect species, especially bees. Ian has been a beekeeper in Broadford for some time and is observing the decline in insect numbers especially bees. They will cover the implications on pollinators, the appearance and control of verona mites in NSW and the affect on food production.

They will also look at local efforts by the Environmental Sustainability Rotary Action Group (ESRAG), to establish year long bee friendly gardens in homes and roadside areas.

Tune in to BEAM's radio program EarthChat each Friday on Seymour FM at 10am or to the repeat on Saturday at 8am.
