Friday 28 May 10am and Saturday 29 May 8am, and also on podcast:
The Victorian Climate Strategy has been released, and Friends of the Earth’s “The Peoples Climate Strategy” is to be delivered to the doors of local MPs on Friday 4 June.
Leigh Ewbank of FoE’s Act on Climate collective has been very active in both of these over the past years. Despite the Covid lockdowns, some encouraging community conversations have contributed to both Strategies. Leigh has said “the targets represent a breakthrough for climate policy and politics”.
Leigh joins EarthChat this week to discuss these Strategies - is there a difference? FoE were pushing for a world-leading cut of 75 percent by 2030—a target that scientists say is necessary to achieve the Paris Agreement goal of limiting global warming to 1.5° - and ended up with a commitment to halve Victoria's emissions over the next decade.
Where does the local community fit in?
Listen up. EarthChat on Friday 28 May at 10am and again Saturday for breakfast at 8am repeated.
