On Tues 9 June, representatives of the BEAM Management Committee met with Mitchell Shire Council Mayor John Dougall. It was a great opportunity to affirm our environmental priorities for the shire, explore the long history of collaboration between BEAM and the Shire, and discuss how the two organisations can work even more closely together in the future.
Topics included the impacts of urban growth on environmental values, the need for community access to natural open spaces, the creation of the Wallan wallan Regional Parkland, the importance of biodiversity, the popularity of the Natural Treasures (local nature reserves guides), the value of nearby state forests, and environmentally-sensitive bushfire recovery work.
